Let’s Make History

blog joeBy Joe Bergin

Picture this: You have just finished chatting with a friend you haven’t been able to spend time with for a little while.  It is brought up in the conversation that you’d like to plan a day or night to go out, kick back, and try to catch up.  There was even some talk about inviting a few more of your friends to tag along.  It sounded great, and you were excited for it. You were really just tangled up in the moment.

Until the conversation ended, and the phones were put down, you hadn’t really thought about HOW you were going to actually spend the night.  In a way, you seem to expect the perfect plans to just fall into your lap.

Has this ever been you?

If so, we may be able to make this experience easier going forward.

Making good plans isn’t something to be nervous about.  It’s supposed to be fun!  Yes, there are plenty options to choose from, but that doesn’t mean you have to be overwhelmed by them.  All you have to do is pick one idea.  From there, you are already on your way to having a good time. But which ideas are good ideas?  To give you a head start, let’s try and stick with an option that is pretty common all around:

“Let’s catch up over a drink.”bar

Great.  Now, where to go?  There are plenty of bars and restaurants you’ll be faced to choose from.  Try and stick to a location that is convenient to travel to for those you plan to meet with.

If you happen to live near the downtown Princeton area, let me save you the time of searching.  There is so much going on here in town.  The area has a unique persona credited to its beautiful architecture and landscapes.  The populated streets and walkways are full of life. They offer exceptional restaurants, bars, shops, and sights that are sure to please regulars and travelers alike.

Princeton loves its rich history.  Those who live and work in town are so proud to be here. They love inviting everyone they know to enjoy what downtown has to offer.  In the center of town at Palmer Square, you’ll find the Yankee Doodle Tap Room, a restaurant and bar that has been around for more than 75 years.  This place is truly one of a kind, down to the very details of design that have been preserved since the 1930s. Expect to find an original Norman Rockwell Mural painted behind the bar as you walk in.  Its the largest Rockwell Mural ever made.  Cool right?

The Tap Room is surrounded by great establishments, but we stand out from the rest because of our fun, unique promotions.  No one else in town offers anything close to what we consider to be our 2 most popular promotions.  People insist that they are “too good to be true“, or that “there MUST be a gimmick“.  There’s no gimmick.  There’s no catch.  Just great times and savings in store for you.

Let’s review.  You’ve found something to do, and you’ve found a place to meet your friends. Now it’s time to explore how you’ll show your friends a time they won’t forget.  Here, we will go into detail to tell you all about our 2 promotions everyone is talking about.

I MADE HISTORY CHALLENGE

The reward: Free “I Made History” T-shirt, and automatically inducted into our Hall of Fame

To start this challenge is as simple as telling the bartender you’d like to make history.  From there, your task is to complete 7 drinks (6 signature drinks, 1 bartender’s choice).  Finish all 7 over a span of time (Please drink responsibly) and you’ll make history.

If you’d like to know what you’re getting yourself into before you begin, here are the 7 drinks separating you from making our wall of fame and an awesome FREE T-shirt.

Drink 1 – Yankee Doodlemadras

Madras

The name may not be something you’re so familiar with, but the refreshing drink is one you’ve probably had before.  Our bartenders really know how to serve this one up for you.

What’s in it?: Vodka, Cranberry Juice, Orange Juice.

Simple, but so should be any start to challenge.  6 more to go.

 Drink 2 – Albert EinsteinICB

Irish Car Bomb

Irish brands and flavors – CHECK.  The bartender supplies the ingredients, and the roles switch as you become the speedy mixologist, plopping your shot right into your pint.

What’s in it?: ¾ Pint of Guinness, ½ shot Baileys, ½ shot Whiskey.

The challenge has surely been accepted the second you drop your shot into the glass.  You’re excited, and you should be.  You’re about to be on your 3rd drink.

Drink 3 – George WashingtonJB

Jager Bomb

Another classic takes 2 contradicting flavors and mixes them into one tasty cocktail.  We prefer our patrons to drink responsibly, but with that said, it’s recommended you try to drink this a tad faster than how you’d drink, let’s say, a martini.  But of course, we prefer that you drink at your own responsible pace.  Expect a small boost in energy after this.

What’s in it?: ½ Pint Red Bull, 1 shot of Jägermeister.

You are basically half way there.  Congrats!  There is still more ahead to conquer in our quest to make history.  But there is nothing wrong with taking a break and resting to finish the 2nd portion of drinks.

 Drink 4 – Betsy RossOF

Old Fashioned

Welcome to Bourbon City.  This is the definitive drink you see with an orange wheel and cherry garnish.  It’s served in an “old fashioned” glass, but we here at the Tap Room like to call that a rocks glass.

What’s in it?: 2 oz Bourbon, Dash Bitters, Sugar, Club Soda, Cherry & Orange Wheel Garnish.

Surprisingly tasty.  There’s a chance you may want to order this again sometime while you’re.  But for now, we have some business to take care of, and that business is drink # 5.

 Drink 5 – Ben Franklin3 MILE

3 Mile Island Long Island Iced Tea

The good ol’ Long Island.  You’ve heard about it before.  The Yankee Doodle Tap Room likes to put their own spin on the usual by mixing you up the “3 Mile” nuclear green version.  Very green.  It could be a complete mystery as to why, or, it could the Midori.

What’s in it?: 1 part Vodka, 1 part Rum, 1 part Gin, 1 part Triple Sec, 1 part Midori Melon Liquer, Sprite, Sour Mix.

Phew.  Don’t be overwhelmed, the drink’s ingredients are distributed equally into 1 pint glass.  And it actually tastes pretty good! And hey, we are already on drink #6

Drink 6 – Dolley MaddisonME

Mind Eraser

This is a fun one.  Don’t let the name fool you though, we assure you that you will be able to recall how delicious this cocktail is.  The way you drink it is hilarious too.  You ‘ll have to drink it with a straw, positioned to the very bottom of the glass.  The purpose of this is so that you drink the different contents inside in the right order (bottom to top).

What’s in it?: Raspberry Vodka, Kahlua, Club Soda.

This is a great conversation starter when you bring it up at a bar.  You and you’re friends will have blast just trying this.  Sure to have a couple of laughs.  Also, you can smile that we are finally onto our final drink.

Drink 7 – Paul RevereBottles

Bartenders Choice

Pretty self-explanatory here.  The bartender is going to mix you up something he feels he knows you’ll like.  Our bartenders are very experienced and friendly.  So in confidence, you can trust your final drink will be a good one.  Tell them your shirt size, and you’ll receive your shirt on the spot. Shortly afterwards your picture will be put up alongside our other daring who made history.shirts close
